Robert Hurt Statement On June Unemployment Report

Congressman Robert Hurt (R-Virginia) released the following statement today after the Department of Labor issued the June unemployment report:

“As our nation came together this past week to celebrate Independence Day, we were once again reminded of the importance of our founding principles of limited government, free enterprise, and individual liberty. And at a time when we face over three years of over 8% unemployment rates, and so many across Virginia’s 5th District without work for too long, we must be mindful of these principles that took root in America 236 years ago. As we work to get our economy back on track and get Virginians and Americans across this country back to work, it is critical that we return to the principles that have made this country great by reducing the size and scope of the federal government, untying the hands of our local businessmen and women so they can create the jobs our communities need, and restoring individual liberties that have been trampled upon by big government policies such as the burdensome health care law. The House of Representatives remains committed to working on behalf of the American people to restore our founding principles in order to spur job creation and I look forward to working with my colleagues on behalf of Virginia’s 5th District to adopt pro-growth policies that will get Central and Southside Virginians back to work.”
